Monochrome Madness

The ever so chic world of monochromatic palettes has seen a recent explosion following a popular reign of colour blocking…

And we could not be more excited!

For someone who is easily frustrated by black and white movies (what colour dress is that?!), I love the simplicity and easiness of wear this age old relationship between black and white trend- no colour clashes!

The best part about this style is you probably already have key pieces in your wardrobe (which means you’ll have more to spend on that mani/pedi you’ve been craving) and it is near impossible to get this trend wrong… perfect for those mornings you need a fool proof outfit to run out the door in.

Or you could opt for a pop of colour through some lipstick, shoes or a bag to add that bit of extra pow.

Mirror, Mirror.

tumblr_lnqs2fpjC51qzslt1o1_400

Some call it vein…

I like to think of it as self appreciation.

Whatever your stance; the newest trend to emerge from the high streets will have you seeing yourself in a new light.

It appears that the top picks for eyewear this season is the reflective lens sunglasses, available in an array of colours and designs, and has been spotted on the most savviest in street fashion.

I will not lie… my first reaction to this was one of shock, as it reminded me of the sunnies I rocked when I was young, but after seeing them worn in a few ways; I am glad to say this is one I will definitely be embracing. Which is upsetting for my Tiffany sunnies. (I still love you!)

And hey…if it saves me from having to pull out my compact to check my makeup while talking to someone, then that is ay ok with me!

This post is really late and I’m really sorry please forgive me!

Oh! And come find me on Instagram so we can be friends!

Now that that’s out of the way…

Last month I was very kindly invited to attend the Spring/Summer 13/14 Fashion Palette runway show- where Australian designers, both a mixture of up and coming and established, showcase their newest collections.

Located at the Australian Technology Park, it was a warehouse very fabulously decked out (as you would expect). Drinks flowed, music played, generous gifts were received and great company was had!

We saw trends of Versace style prints, patchwork, graphic prints

And, of course, the amazing GALANNI delivered with their incredible collection; permeated by gold, eye catching accents and Grecian style beauty.

However, it was certainly the Niki Teljega Elizabethan style gown that was the wow item of the night. So gorgeous.

On The Wish List: Iron Heel Pumps

Ever since I was really young, I have chosen shoes over almost anything.

I clearly remember the excitement I had when I came home from kindergarten (yes, my addiction started very young) and there was a new pair of shoes waiting for me still in the box.

Hi, I’m Sammy Jade… and I’m a shoe addict.

My latest must-have? The Iron Heel Pump.

Sounds pretty hardcore, right?

Contrary to their tough name, these shoes are so incredibly chic, I can think of a hundred and one ways to transform these from day to night (a la Miranda Kerr). Too perfect for Spring! …. or Autumn…. or Winter…

Maybe it’s the wannabe supermodel in me talking (life would be so much easier if I just looked like her!), but I can’t wait to get my hands on a pair of these!

It’s time! : Top 3 Swimsuit Trends 2012

The Australian Summer is right around the corner, it’s time to get in the know-how of this seasons hottest swimsuit trends.

Much like within our apparel- prints, in particular floral, are set to be very much present this season. To mix it up, don’t be afraid to mix and match prints- swimsuits are all about playing around with colours and designs (which is great for when you can only find one half of two!).

Victoria’s Secret bikini top ($69) and bottom ($42)

The correlation between swimsuit and apparel trends is clearly quite strong. This is clearly expressed through the growing influence of the womanly shape within our apparel ranges- shown within the popular cinched in waist belt and the peplum. This notion is hence carried into our swimsuit designs, in particular with the full piece set to make a comeback to our beaches. These are designed to flatter the figure, and place a strong emphasis on the female form.

Baku Bread and Butter Bow Front Maillot $129.99 Surfstitch.com

Lastly, but certainly not least, we are expecting a modernised flashback to the 70’s with the adorable, retro crochered look.

Ralph Lauren swimsuit, $115.

Incase it hasn’t been blatantly obvious, I’m super excited for Summer!

London Fashion Week: Giles

Although London Fashion Week well and truly done and dusted, the impacts of this full on week quite clearly still linger in the air, so what better time to revisit some of our favourite collections?

The second last day of LFW presented us with Giles, by Giles Deacon. This collection took a new direction to many of the trends we are seeing now; with the main focus’ being on colour blocking and lace. However, this was also extended with an interesting shattered glass print.

Although I appreciate the aesthetics of colour blocking, the combination of the shattered glass print and the flirtatious lace design is most certainly what drew my attention. The considered shapes of the Twiggy style shift, the figure hugging and the long dresses accentuates the impact this lace has on creating a sense of femininity.

With the Australian climate stepping into Spring, I am very keen to put this look into action for those warm, carefree, sunny days.

Here are some other pieces from the collection. Images from London Fashion Week

Exciting News & Pictures

Hey everyone!

So for those of you who have been following me for a while, you all know that I entered into the Guess One to Watch competition, which was held by Guess Watches.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with this, it was a competition which was in search for their next Guess Access blogger. This required all participants to create an account on their One to Watch Facebook app, and gain as many “style points” as possible within a 2 month period. The top 10 from each country would be selected to move onto the next round, which required each person to submit a blog post. From there, 2 people from each participating country would be selected to become the newest bloggers for Guess.

I entered into this competition hoping for the best, but expecting nothing special to happen. I was very surprised when I received an email informing me that I had, in fact, made it through to the next round in which I was required to submit a post.

My excitement quickly turned to nervousness as I realised the easiest part was over, and that I would have to really prove myself to be able to have a shot at this amazing opportunity.

After wasting a precious week deciding what to write on, thinking and rethinking my decision, I finally sat down and began to write, which of course, ended in me reading, and rereading my post to the point where I had corrected every possible flaw I could find myself.

After submission, I had to wait a gruelling month and a half to find out the decision, which I became very apprehensive about after seeing the other contestants amazing work.

Finally, the day came where we would either receive an email informing us we had won, or not. After a whole day without hearing, I had concluded that I had not won.

All of a sudden, when I was least expecting…

There it was

My golden ticket.

I have been absolutely blessed to be selected to become an Australian blogger for Guess Access! My excitement has shot through the roof.

To all of you who voted in the main round- thank you so much for all your amazing support, you are absolute angels!

I believe my blog post will be posted on the Guess Access blog around the 24th- not entirely sure on that one so don’t hold me to it.

But otherwise keep your eyes peeled for me!

Here are some pictures for you guys, shot by my wonderful best friend at Sydney’s Curl Curl board walk, that weren’t included in my Guess blog post- enjoy!

Mid Week Inspiration Boost

Lately, and I don’t know why,  I’ve been feeling my inspiration dwindling.

So, if you’re like me and feel something like this…

Here are some pictures to give that extra boost, that have helped me through this week.

We can beat this mid- week slug!

Lets Get Sneaky: Wedge Sneakers

I don’t know about you guys, but I find the effortless chic look celebrities sport so incredibly well, is actually super hard to achieve. Suddenly your hoodie looks too baggy, and those pants too frumpy. How do they manage it?!

I wish I had the answer, but it suddenly appeared a lot more achievable to me as my hopes soared the first time I laid eyes on this trend.

Wedged sneakers?! Genius!

Ofcourse I am not naive enough to believe that I will be able to pull this off a la Miranda Kerr, but I absolutely adore the concept of pairing something so casual like sneakers, with a style like wedges, that are favoured for their god-like ability to dress up any outfit.

If you guy’s are anything like me, you’ll definitely appreciate this design as the middle man for the daily dilemma of wanting to keep a chic look, without feeling over dressed and uncomfortable, attempting to resist the urge, for your feet’s sake, of wearing those favourite pair of wedges because, lets face it, they make our legs and butt look 10x better than they would normally, not to mention that added confidence they give.

Ok, I admit it, I don’t know what I would do without my jeans, practically wearing them to death. These shoes are the perfect compliment for this casual look. Pair with a simple white tee (which is high on my essentials list for this coming summer) and this look is absolutely fool proof. So simple, yet so chic.

We might even be able to press that snooze button an extra time.

A Spring Safari

Image:  Harpers Bazaar.com

No, your eyes don’t need checking, after what feels like (to me) forever, I am back again. Apparently my version of uni holidays is to get as much on my plate as possible, which includes a wonderful internship with the amazing blog Breakfast With Audrey , where not only am I experiencing the behind-the-scenes of the industry, but I have also been given the opportunity to write for them too! My posts go up most Fridays so keep an eye out.

All things aside, this post is a result of the vibrant Safari trend, seen running rife throughout NYFW, with some of the top designers all too keen to show off their fun prints and designs.

Albeit, animal prints when not exercised with caution, can turn out a bit extremely tacky. However, when centred as the focus piece, this print is incredibly quirky.

The idea of this outfit is to maintain the printed pants as centre focus, while alluding to a sort of ‘rawness’ that would otherwise be found within the safari outback (all while, of course, looking good). Getting the right balance can be a challenge, but with the know-how, it’s a piece of cake.

I firstly started off with these Sass and Bide The Late Movie Jeans , which became the staple safari element. I then worked everything else around the texture and colours of these. A simple Black Jersey Tunic Slouched Top is perfect for the Spring, and the drape of it is a flattering contrast to the shapely style of the jeans. Colour blocking is key for statement pieces, we don’t want too much going on at once. These Morea Shoe Boots from Spurr are extremely complementary, bringing out the brown tones from the jeans, as well as the style adding femininity.

Finally, the accessories tie the whole look together. I was instantly drawn to the texture of this Guess Leather Chestnut Handbag, the raw look of it, to me, screams safari, while the texture and colours of this Sheilding Necklace from Forecast is a strong contrast to the simplicity of the black top, something about it reminds me of Indiana Jones.

And last, but certainly not least, I just had to add in the Michael Kors Rose Gold Watch. Not only was Michael Kors one of the first designers to express his love for this trend at Fashion Week, but its current status brings us back to the modernity of the outfit, not to mention I just love it.

I don’t know about you, but this spring I will be kicking it Safari style.
