Paris Fashion Week SS 2015: Christian Dior

This past year has rolled around so fast its hard to believe its once again time for fashion weeks around the world. With Paris Fashion Week set to kick off the most fabulous time of the year, as expected we have certainly not been disappointed. Christian Dior showcased last week with their ready- to- wear collection, providing us an insight to what we can expect this Spring- thigh high boots with midi dresses and a heavily sixties influence. This collection Raf Simons played heavily with sequin detailing and feminine A-line shapes, elongating the legs by combining classic shift dress forms with thigh high latex boots. Guiding us through the Dior archives, we were also presented with shapely gowns, cut out neck lines and an eclectic mix of colours and patterns- proving to us that this Spring nothing is off limits. Have a scroll through some of the amazing pieces below:

And a Side of Fries

Its not Schmancy…. but its definitely a little fancy.

If you have been quietly observing all the fashion week buzz like I have, you would have definitely come across Moschino’s McDonalds themed collection at Milan Fashion Week not too long ago.

And damn, fast food has never looked so good.

We have Jeremy Scott to thank for this deliciously fun collection, with his debut for Moschino having been referred to as a “mutant hybrid of Ronald McDonald and Coco Chanel” which, in all honesty, could not be put any better.

This collection consisted of the classic yellow and red colour palette and of course, the signature golden arches, with a fun play on the classic fast food chain uniform, which I’m sure staff would gladly give up their current attire for… or at least I would if I were them.

Its pretty safe to say that here at How To Run In Stilettos- we’re lovin’ it. (Too cliche?)

But of course, a collection based on popular culture would not be complete without  cameos from possibly the two other most iconic brandings- Spongebob and Fruitloops. Because, why not? right?

In an industry that has the tendency to take itself too seriously, its great to see someone flirting with fashion.

Check out some more images from the collection below and let me know what you think!

2013 In Review: If You Want To Be Happy- Be.

Image

Well, we’ve done it. Another year coming to a close, and as the nostalgia of the past 12 months starts to inch its way into our minds, I can’t help but be excited in the prospect of the new year.

I guess one of the things people love most about a new year is the idea of a fresh start, a clean slate where lessons learnt over the past year can be put into practice, where new situations are formed that test you, grow you, and shape you. A chance for boundaries and comfort zones to be pushed, a chance for reflection and an opportunity to grasp where you are and where you want to take yourself.

Image

For me, 2013 has been a whirlwind; where the highs and celebrations have been just as equal to the drawbacks. It has definitely tested me in every way possible, and now that we are on the home stretch, I have come out of this year humbled and blessed for what I have and all the amazing people I have to share it with.

As the new year approaches, and we eagerly scribble down our new years resolutions on a piece of paper that will inevitably and accidentally end up in the recycling pile a week later, it is important to remember that, while setting goals for ourselves is a great way to encourage us to strive for what we deserve, no academic marks, amount of money in our bank accounts or number of friends on Facebook define who we are or what we are capable of achieving.

Image

As I sit here, blanket wrapped around my legs, surprisingly cold form the sudden temperature drop, new years resolutions yet to be officially set (read: to find the nearest piece of paper to scribble them down on), and a wonderful week of festivities pending, I come to understand that in order to achieve happiness and success within their lives, one must find happiness within themselves.

Life is so short, and it is absolutely detrimental to make of yourself what satisfies and warms your soul.

Image

On that note, I am writing to wish everyone a happy and healthy festive period, may your hopes and dreams manifest themselves this year, lets make 2014 our best one yet.

And of course, I can’t go without giving you a taste of what inspires me; here are some of my favourite pictures surfaced during 2013.

Your Guide To: The Alphabet of Beauty Creams

products-z

It is undeniable that we now live in an age where simple moisturisers have been replaced by anti wrinkle , anti ageing serums, where the number of beauty products applied each morning far exceeds the number of shoes within our overbearing collections, and with the climbing amount of beauty buffers, de-shiners, redness reducers, blemish eliminators, do we really understand what each product’s purpose is?

I know I have spend mindless hours wandering around the beauty aisle, in almost any given chemist, supermarket, department store or Priceline, talking myself out of purchasing one of every item. I just want flawless skin like Miranda Kerr, is that to much to ask?! And with the recent developments of BB,CC and now DD creams, It is almost as if cosmetic companies have decided that language just wasn’t enough. Lets bring in ACRONYMS (queue brain melt down and acceptance of a fate of sub-average complexion)

For those of you who are in the same predicament as myself, I present to you your one stop de-acronym…ing, de-bunking and de-confusion…ising of the alphabet of beauty.

BB Creams

BB Creams, a handy acronym for Blemish Balm or Beauty Balm, was the first culprit on the scene, and pretty quickly grew in popularity with its claims of being everything you need (we’ve heard that before, haven’t we ladies!). It aimed at covering blemishes, evening skin tone, controlling oil, anti ageing and brightening, all while adding a little bit of protection with its added SPF (how kind!) . With many colours available to suit a range of skin tones, it can be used as a tinted moisturiser, primer or foundation.

Some Great BB Creams

CC Creams

And then there were CC Creams. Also known as colour correctors, this cream works in a similar way to its sister product, however it’s central focus is on fixing colour and pigmentation, as well as helping with acne , shallowness and acne scarring. It is also packed with Vitamin C and E which is always a plus!

Some Great CC Creams
  • Lumene Time Freeze Anti-Age CC Cream, $15; ulta.com
  • Stila CC Cream Stick, $38; ulta.com
  • Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream, $35; nordstrom.com

DD Creams

Finally, to add to all the confusion and mass options, we have the DD cream. Also known as the Dynamic Do-all, it claims to be a hybrid of both BB and CC, with added bonuses such as anti ageing and wrinkle reducing benefits, while also balancing skin tone and protecting the most sensitive parts of your skin. By incorporating this into your beauty regime, it also works to reduce wrinkles and signs of ageing long term, while also creating short term improvements. Almost sounds too good to be true!

The Round Up

I hope this helps those of you travelling down a similar path of overwhelming confusion, I always thought I knew the alphabet pretty well.

Monochrome Madness

tumblr_lrsqugIsyE1qe69aqo1_500

The ever so chic world of monochromatic palettes has seen a recent explosion following a popular reign of colour blocking…

And we could not be more excited!

For someone who is easily frustrated by black and white movies (what colour dress is that?!), I love the simplicity and easiness of wear this age old relationship between black and white trend- no colour clashes!

The best part about this style is you probably already have key pieces in your wardrobe (which means you’ll have more to spend on that mani/pedi you’ve been craving) and it is near impossible to get this trend wrong… perfect for those mornings you need a fool proof outfit to run out the door in.

Or you could opt for a pop of colour through some lipstick, shoes or a bag to add that bit of extra pow.

Monday Review: Chanel Mousse Confort Cleanser

DSC_0816

About a month ago I decided to treat my skin to a splurge item, a little thank you to it for surviving a round of makeup induced abuse which lasted for way too long.

I knew that for some time I had wanted to try out the Chanel skincare range as I have loved every other product from them, I knew there was a high chance for success from this too, however, it took me a lot longer to go in for the kill than I had originally planned due to an intimidating cocktail of less than helpful sales staff and not knowing where to begin.

After finally meeting a lovely rep at the Chanel counter, I decided that I was going to go for it, and after being happily surprised by the reasonable price, I couldn’t resist.

At AU $52/150ml, it sounds like a lot for what appears to be such a small amount. However, the way it works means that only the tiniest amount is needed for each use, which ultimately means it will last you a lot longer.

DSC_0818

As intended, the first aspect of the product you experience is the typical classy, chic and simple packaging of the product. The elegance and simplicity of the monochromatic palette creates an emphatic statement of “I don’t need to prove anything to you”. Which is exactly the case.

On the inside of the box the product comes in, is a small pamphlet explaining exactly the products intensions, how it works and how to use it.

The actual cleanser itself, while you only need the smallest amount on your hand, once mixed with water, it begins to take on a silky,semi-foam like appearance and texture, which is then able to be applied generously to the face. Not to mention how fresh and clean the scent of the cleanser is! The very epitome of Chanel.

While this left my face feeling clean and refreshed, I did notice that it dried my skin out a little bit, which I remedied with some lotion. I am yet to determine if this was due to it being Winter here, or if it is the product itself.

At first I thought it was just wishful thinking, but after just one use, I couldn’t help but notice a bit of a difference already, my skin was happier looking and my pores had reduced! With using it twice daily, as recommended by the instructions, these results were greatly amplified.

Overall, I would certainly recommend this product for anyone looking to treat their skin with a little something-something (we all know it deserves it for sure!) and with many products to suit a range of skin types, there will definitely be something there for everyone.

I hope everyone has a great start to their week!

Whitney Port For Cooper St.

WP2jpg

Is it possible to get a more perfect collaboration? Probably not.

We first saw her as an intern at Teen Vogue alongside Lauren Conrad on this hit reality show, The Hills, and now, after conquering her own reality show The City, she has proven that a career is possible after the final cut.

Launching her own labels; Whitney Eve and WE, her ultra feminine, ready to wear collections have been showcased around the world.

And now, her collaboration with Cooper St is set to be in Myer stores by September. Swoon!

Of course, she made sure to stand by her iconic feminine palettes and silhouettes, while also focusing on the versatility of the garments, which really highlights her down to earth personality. The collection is intended to encapsulate notions from the Australian Spring, while also including elements from the edginess of L.A.

“The collection is bright, feminine and fun, and can range anywhere from an awesome cocktail dress to a cool pair of printed pants. It’s eclectic but also very wearable, and I feel like there’s something in it for everyone”

With very limited images circulating at the moment, we are so excited for the big reveal of this collection- definitely something worth looking out for, such a glamour!

Lisa Ho To Close Doors

lisa ho hero

Upon hearing this devastating news a little while ago, I am still in shock that the pioneering designer, Lisa Ho, has announced the end to her label after 30+ years.

Ho’s label focused on a contemporary aesthetic, with her show regarded as a complete success during the recent Fashion Week, as well as Australian Fashion Week 2012. While this wasn’t enough to maintain sales profits, administrators of the brand are now concentrating on focusing on an orderly close of the store chains, expecting to be finalised by the end of June.

However, it is true when they say with every cloud comes a silver lining. With this particular cloud, comes a last time amazing sale from the Lisa Ho collections which have subsequently been reduced an incredible amount! Definitely go check it out here to snag a bargain on the final few items.

I’m sure that I am speaking for many when I say that this label will be missed.

Mirror, Mirror.

tumblr_lnqs2fpjC51qzslt1o1_400

Some call it vein…

I like to think of it as self appreciation.

Whatever your stance; the newest trend to emerge from the high streets will have you seeing yourself in a new light.

It appears that the top picks for eyewear this season is the reflective lens sunglasses, available in an array of colours and designs, and has been spotted on the most savviest in street fashion.

I will not lie… my first reaction to this was one of shock, as it reminded me of the sunnies I rocked when I was young, but after seeing them worn in a few ways; I am glad to say this is one I will definitely be embracing. Which is upsetting for my Tiffany sunnies. (I still love you!)

And hey…if it saves me from having to pull out my compact to check my makeup while talking to someone, then that is ay ok with me!

This post is really late and I’m really sorry please forgive me!

Oh! And come find me on Instagram so we can be friends!

Now that that’s out of the way…

Last month I was very kindly invited to attend the Spring/Summer 13/14 Fashion Palette runway show- where Australian designers, both a mixture of up and coming and established, showcase their newest collections.

602913_4836407062540_761988227_n

Located at the Australian Technology Park, it was a warehouse very fabulously decked out (as you would expect). Drinks flowed, music played, generous gifts were received and great company was had!

We saw trends of Versace style prints, patchwork, graphic prints

And, of course, the amazing GALANNI delivered with their incredible collection; permeated by gold, eye catching accents and Grecian style beauty.

However, it was certainly the Niki Teljega Elizabethan style gown that was the wow item of the night. So gorgeous.
